The time is right to end some jinxes.
September 23rd, 2002 | by Scott Jennings |I have such a crush on Ricky Williams. For one thing, he’s adorable, he’s the very first Miami Dolphin to rush for over 100 yards in three straight games (the latest in support of today’s defeat of the hated Jets), and his continued success will greatly facilitate Miami’s predestined Super Bowl championship this year.
On top of that, I like his story. In a nutshell: a misunderstood man with splendid talent who couldn’t find his way under some intense pressure and under the weight of social anxiety disorder, who found help for his problems and is getting a second chance in a much more supportive environment. When Ricky broke loose and ran for fifty-four yards and a touchdown, I found myself crying a little, I was so happy. But I’m pretty depressed.
Besides, the Dolphins’ fight song is so charmingly anachronistic:
Miami has the Dolphins,
The greatest football team!
We take the ball from goal to goal,
Like no one’s ever seen!
We’re in the air,
We’re on the ground,
We’re always in control.
So when you say Miami,
You’re talking Super Bowl!
‘Cause we’re the Miami Dolphins,
Miami Dolphins,
Miami Dolphins Number 1.
Yes we’re the Miami Dolphins,
Miami Dolphins,
Miami Dolphins Number 1!
