This amusing anecdote will just have to do.
October 5th, 2003 | by Scott Jennings |Porter and I got stuck in traffic on 15-501 in Chapel Hill today in the aftermath of the UNC-UVa football match. After continuing to marvel that the road is actually called “15-501″ and no one considers that unusual or awkward, we decided to try to guess the exact score of the game based on the expressions of the occupants of the other vehicles.
Immediately, two things were apparent: 1) UNC had lost, because they’re terrible and there wasn’t raucous celebration amongst those with ugly “Carolina blue” flags, and b) it wasn’t a ridiculous blowout, because the Virginia contingent seemed rather calm themselves. We agreed that it was a comfortable UVa win, but that UNC didn’t look to be total jackasses. It’s also hard to read people in traffic, because people are often pissed off at traffic. Here’s how the scoreboards looked:
Scott: UVa 38, UNC 24
Porter: UVa 28, UNC 9
Actual score: UVa 38, UNC 13
Not too bad for a first try. I look forward to continuing to play this game as I remain completely indifferent to the outcomes of the actual football matches.
I still have much more to tell you all.
