An open letter to my inner editor.
November 3rd, 2003 | by Scott Jennings |Dear Inner Editor,
There’s no denying you’re totally awesome. You’re great at what you do. Thanks to you, I’ve written some stuff in my day that really amazes me. Honestly.
And I know you’re used to working with the words before they hit the page, but that’s probably why I’ve never written anything longer than a few thousand words. So I need you to do me a favor and shut up for now, and let me get this story out and on paper. Then you may take as long as you like to pick through it and spin a rhetorical masterpiece and then we’ll go around saying “I have a manuscript” and feeling superior to other people. ‘Cause we are, dude.
So if you could wait until December to tell me “you’ve used that verb twice already this paragraph, get a synonym” or “yeah, that’s great, but what’s going to happen NEXT?” I’d really appreciate it. We’ll both benefit in the end.
But again, big big love for you, inner editor. I’m a huge fan.
Love,
Scott
