I still want to be a part of it, though.
December 18th, 2003 | by Scott Jennings |Greg and I made it back to Raleigh late last night, making pretty good time, considering that we stopped for two meals and a reckless driving charge. (I feel partially responsible for the reckless driving charge, since I should have warned Greg about Emporia.)
Harold Night was fantastic, everything that I had hoped for Greg’s first true NYC improv experience. Monkeydick’s ensemble work was simply transcendent, and Dillinger was as fantastic as I had billed them; completely supportive and balls-out. For their opening, they did a simple pattern game — bold in its simplicity, and effective in its execution. Good for them. Filth and gigawatt also had fantastic Harolds; it was great to see my old friends Neil Casey, Sean Taylor, Erika Kern, and Amey Goerlich on a bona fide Harold team. The Holiday Spectacular was precisely as gay as Billy Merritt promised.
I’m sorry I didn’t get to see everyone (Zohar, Julie, the dozens of others), but this was one of those last minute and poorly planned trips. We’ll hang out and make out next time I’m in New York. Or, you could come down and visit for the Dirty South Improv Festival.
Two days is the perfect length of time for a visit to New York, though; any more walking, and I was sure my legs were going to fall off.
