Ride on, cowboy.

As far as bloggers go, I’m very very late to the story of Dudley Hiibel. In a nutshell, he was suspected of a crime, and was forced to produce identification by a Humboldt County, Nevada, police officer. When Hiibel refused, he was arrested, and his case is on its way to the United States Supreme Court later this month.

Naturally, I’m not a big fan of the notion of producing your papers on demand; this isn’t socialist Norway we’re living in. You don’t have to produce your identification if the police don’t have probable cause; every bust card makes that clear.

But Hiibel’s official defense website just tickles me so much that I had to share it with you. I’ll be rooting for the cowboy.
