Netflix capsule movie reviews, first batch.
May 11th, 2004 | by Scott Jennings |Twelve Angry Men: Ninety minutes of twelve men in a room talking — try that today, and you won’t get far. But this film is absolutely riveting, Henry Fonda is perfect, and Sidney Lumet’s directorial debut is incredible. Five golden Netflix stars.
Network: Another Sidney Lumet film, coincidentally. Eerily prescient of corporate control and manipulation of the media, yet a bit meandering in its storytelling and direction. Still, hilarious and a must-see. Four golden Netflix stars.
Harold and Maude: An absolutely perfect film, gorgeous cinematography, direction, acting, storytelling, soundtrack. Beautifully bitter yet uplifiting at the end, one of the few films that has made me cry. Five big golden Netflix stars.
Bonus “Not Yet On Netflix Review”: Mean Girls: A great summer movie, but a bit short of the instant classic some would want you to see. Tina Fey can do no wrong, her screenplay was very well-crafted, filled with brilliant little throwaway lines. Also, hooray for Lindsey Lohan. Three golden Netflix stars, redeemable once it hits DVD.
