Democracy Inaction, indeed.

October 27th, 2004 | by Scott Jennings |

Look: for the next week or so, I’m going to be exceptionally election-obsessed. For example, the Boston Red Sox just took the lead in the top of the blah blah blah, and I’m surfing for election news and op-eds. So here’s some more political stuff, which is important because I’m putting it here.

  1. I LIKE JOHN KERRY. I WANT TO HAVE A BEER WITH JOHN KERRY. I figure if I have a beer with John Kerry, we’ll have a great conversation about any number of topics and I’ll be left enlightened and with much to think about. I mention this because I’m sick of the “we’d rather have a beer with Dubya” meme — I figure if I have a beer with George W. Bush, he’d give me one of his little nicknames (which would probably involve some form of “big guy”), and he’d probably charm me with his folksy fake cowboy accent, and that’d be it. Personally, I’d much rather have a beer with a real President.
  2. JOHN KERRY, FOR SERIOUS, IS A FUCKING MAN. The Rude Pundit explains it better than I could.
  3. JESUS CHRIST, FUCK THE REPUBLICAN PARTY. This story will get no play in America, so it’s up to you and me to make sure everyone knows: the GOP strategy is to disenfranchise as many voters who won’t vote for them. It seems some GOP fuckwad sent an Excel spreadsheet of black voters in Jacksonville to the wrong e-mail address (georgewbush.org is a parody site, .com is the real one). Please please tell me why the GOP is collecting names and addresses of black voters in Jacksonville. Oh, please please, someone, CBS, MSNBC, I don’t care, please pick this story up. Please make the GOP spin it away. But since they won’t — forward it to your dumbass conservative dad, ok? He misses you.
