Cookware, cookware, cookware!
August 7th, 2005 | by Scott Jennings |I bought three skillets today. That’s the executive summary, and I think that’ll just about do it if you have other things to do.
I took Katy over to Bed Bath & Beyond today to pick up a few back-to-school items during (cue music) TAX FREE WEEKEND. My eye was immediately caught by a nonstick skillet designed for the grill — this sucker’s got HOLES in it! Straight into the cart! Then I came across a 12 inch cast iron skillet with a little ding in the handle marked down to $3. Straight into the cart!
My infatuation with Alton Brown continues unabated, and at some point I decided that I wanted to try this recipe, so I cruised over to the Wal-Mart to pick up a blender, a proper set of knives, a cutting board, and one more skillet — a regular-type nonstick frying pan to replace the seriously beat-up one that Austin fried a dozen eggs in every morning for about a year and a half.
The skirt steak was fantastic, and I grilled peppers and onions in the cast iron skillet right on the coals. What a country! What a Saturday night!
