‘Tis the season.
December 21st, 2006 | by Scott Jennings |Yesterday was, hands down, the best day of the year. It was the day that the Flavor of the Day at Goodberry’s was eggnog. I was there.
Oh, I’m not even kidding. If you need to know my weakness, if you need to know how to bring me to my knees and pound me into submission, the answer is simple: eggnog. Lots and lots of rich creamy eggnog. I don’t make much of a secret of how much I hate Christmas, but the eggnog definitely helps make it go down smooth.
My brother has the same addiction. One Christmas when we were younger, we both found ourselves in Charleston, SC. We were in a shopping plaza, probably so Jeff could nose around a music store, but we eventually found our way over to the Piggly Wiggly. And since we were two young men with a little bit of pocket money and a taste for the season, we each bought a quart of eggnog and brought it outside to enjoy as we loitered. As we leaned against a post and chugged down our holiday beverage of choice, two kids passed by us. One commented to the other, “boy, them white boys sure do like their eggnog.”
I’m driving down to Florida tomorrow to spend Christmas with Jeff and his bride Shanna. We have a lot planned — I’m going to teach him how to barbecue (I’m coming home with a trunk full of oak and pecan), he’s going to show me around his new digs, and we’ll probably do a whole lot of sitting around. We’ll go through at least three gallons of eggnog.
