Always happy to help.
April 30th, 2007 | by Scott Jennings |New rule, effective immediately: you’re not allowed to put “(sp?)” after words you’re not sure you spelled correctly. That party’s over.
Guess what? YOU’RE ON THE INTERNET. Right now, you are! (I deduced it!) And whenever you’re on the Internet, you have the full power of the World Wide Web available. So, guess what else? There are dozens of dictionaries online that you can use to spell-check yourself. Hell, if you have the latest version of Firefox, there’s a spell-checker built right in. You have options. I’d be happy to help you explore them.
So, this is how it boils down: if your potential spelling error bothers you enough to flag it to your reader, then take five seconds to use the tools at your disposal. If you elect not to take this step, you must own your misspellings proudly, and be judged for them.
And, as always, I thank you.
