A comprehensive report on my status.
July 17th, 2007 | by Scott Jennings |I have a lot on my mind about the time I spent in North Carolina, opportunities met, opportunities missed, things I need to do once more before I go, bridges I want to walk across to ensure their structural integrity. And I have a lot on my mind about where I’m going, what I’m going to do once I get there, my plan for my first seven days, thirty days, one hundred days, year, decade. (I’m going to paint my bedroom, for one thing.) But for now, please, the facts, all in one place.
- Earlier today, Dave Siegel wrapped up the paperwork on a four bedroom ground floor apartment on W. 109th St. near Amsterdam that I’ll be sharing with Dave, Jason Curtis, and dork-with-new-locality Nick Faber. Dave will have the keys on July 25th. A moving truck will be leaving the morning on July 26th, and Jeremy and I will be following behind in the Dodge Stratus with two cats in the backseat.
- Yes, I’ll be moving with my car. It’s not ideal, but the miracle of negative equity forces my hand for right now. I’m choosing to make the best of it — the ritual of alternate-side parking sounds like fun, and I get to brush up on my parallel parking. I’m looking at some garages in Inwood that are reasonable and on the 1 train, and I’ll probably pull the trigger on that once I get settled in a job. But having a car will make me popular, and that’s very important to me.
- Yes, Stephanie and Bella are moving with me. They will be jaded city cats in no time. “The price of tuna is outrageous! It’s fucking tuna!”
- Also moving with me: barbecue pit (YES), bed, dresser, small bookcase, large television, television stand, coffee table, end table, and probably the couch. Already sold: small television, washer/dryer. Still for sale: Dell desktop with 17″ LCD monitor and wireless keyboard/mouse, all for $150. (Cheap!)
- My resume is updated and moving around my network. (If you think you can help, let me know and I’ll shoot you a copy.) My unemployment claim is accepted and in full effect. My interview suit is going to the tailor tomorrow, c’mon.
- My savings are gone, baby, gone. That’s why I called the account “Emergency Fund,” but still, $0 is the loneliest account balance.
- I’ve spent a long time exploring my new neighborhood via the miracle of Yelp, and I’m cautiously optimistic that it may be the best place ever.
- I think I’ve decided on a color called “Dusted Indigo” for my bedroom, but that doesn’t sound interesting, so I’m going to tell people it’s called “Super Color McAwesome.”
Everything I said before is still true. One more week for the cleaning and packing and finishing up — everything is under control. Doing this.
