It’s definitely chili weather.
August 2nd, 2007 | by Scott Jennings |I’m blogging right now from the living room, since that’s the only place in the apartment where my cell phone gets a tiny little bit of a signal. (It’s an awesome space, and in the event the Reds set off the H-bomb, I’m pretty sure we’ll be ok.) And the buzzer isn’t working right now, so when the uniformed FreshDirect delivery person arrives, they’ll need to call me to let them in.
I can here you now, naysayers: grocery delivery? The Internet? Grocery delivery from the Internet? The Internet as a means for grocery delivery? Really?
Yes, absolutely. Mind you, I’m still waiting for that first delivery, but I’m already 100% satisfied. One of my roommates dryly observed that we have three different grocery stores within three blocks of our place and poo-pooed the idea, but this was roommate who probably hasn’t yet been inside of any of those grocery stores to take a look around and succumb to instant kidney failure looking at the prices, or experience the terrible and cramped and unenjoyable the shopping experience in Manhattan. It’s terrible!
So, instead of that, I clicked around a website in my boxers and got everything I needed and paid LESS. Ground chuck: Gristedes price: $4/lb, FreshDirect price: $2.25/lb. Cottage cheese: Gristedes price: $4.39. FreshDirect price: $1.79. (Fortunately, all I’m eating right now involves ground chuck and/or cottage cheese.) I got all the ingredients for my famous Forty Dollar Chili for only $27.82! VALUE.
Within the next 45 minutes, I’m going to be a very happy man with a fully stocked fridge, and I’m doing it the New York way, you fucker.
