A day at the beach!
September 9th, 2007 | by Scott Jennings |It was time to let off a little steam by way of the automotive safety valve, so roommates Nick Faber and Dave Siegel joined me in the Dodge Stratus for a trip down the shore, as they say. We were searching for a boardwalk, an ocean, fried foods, sweet confections, and Jersey trash. We set a course for Point Pleasant Beach.

I’m home.

Nick and Dave walk the boardwalk, take in the scenery, and enjoy the pace. I wanted to deck the slow motherfuckers.

Dave wanted to get on the beach, but there was a $7.50 fee to get any closer than this. Apparently this is normal? I’d never heard of such a thing.

This is Dave’s first candy apple, he was never allowed one as a child. This is Dave’s act of rebellion. He found it too difficult to eat and hard on his teeth, and threw it away after three bites.

Towards the end of the boardwalk, there was an unguarded demilitarized zone between the boardwalk and the fenced dune. “This didn’t cost a thing! Are my toes any less sandy than theirs? I don’t think so.”

We played skee ball in a shitty arcade and used our tickets to buy about a dozen pirate eye patches. Dave won the stuffed owl in the claw game. I’m just reporting the facts.
I couldn’t resist playing one boardwalk game.

Our little pirate was all tuckered out on the ride home.

I miss driving so much, even the hour wait at the George Washington Bridge was delightful. (And I need a car wash badly.)
