Nerd alert.

November 15th, 2007 | by Scott Jennings |

I’ve updated my installation of Movable Type for the first time in, uh, ever. It’s phase one of my plan to drag the shitty ol’ website kicking and screaming into Web 2.0, inspired by a blog post and conversation with my old pal Lauren. Plus, I work on shiny high tech newfangled media websites all day, and to come home to an interface that hadn’t been touched since 2003 was not easy to do.

The results of phase one include new RSS feeds that are up to the standards you expect from RSS feeds these days. Take your pick: RSS 2.0 or Atom 1.0. The other result of phase one is an iPhone-optimized interface for the management console, which, believe me, is incredibly cool, and might get me blogging more, just like how the four exercise bikes I’ve bought in my life have got me exercising each and every day.

Phase two will be kicking off shortly, once I settle on a taxonomy and get a little back-tagging done. Once I have that, I’ll be scrapping the current design for something cleaner and based on one guiding principle: you should rarely visit my website. My website hosts my RSS feeds and links to my Facebook and Digg and Yelp and AIM and Google Reader shared items, and that’s about it. The work of the Internet is done in these other applications, and we don’t need to duplicate that effort. If I see something cool, I’ll Digg it; if you’re my friend, add me on Facebook; if I eat somewhere, I’ll Yelp it; and when I need to reach out to the world and feel like a vital part of the Internet, I’ll blog.

I think I’m on to something here. Will keep you posted.

Wrong. Once you release something into the intertubes, you can’t go busting out major SHOULDs or even SHOULD-RARELYs on visitation frequencies. What? Shut up. Every douche who compulsively googles shitty taxonomy conversation will visit this same entry every time he checks the shitty taxonomy conversation results again. That’s the frequency, Kenneth.
