The moderately obsessive guide to driving too much.
August 26th, 2008 | by Scott Jennings |Kinda a work in progress: a map annotated with my notes on how I drive between New York and North Carolina. Probably interesting to no one but me, but if you ever make the drive, boy, what a resource!

Here’s an alternate: Northbound we have taken 695 around the western edge of Baltimore to White Marsh Blvd, which then cuts back to 95. It’s about ten miles longer than just taking 95, but less congested and misses the Fort McHenry Tunnel toll. Plus, if you have to do the mall/Ikea thing, it’s far less aggravating in White Marsh than Potomac Mills.
For us, it’s usually a good deal despite the extra ten miles but I can see why others might prefer the orthodox route.
Also, 85 sucks if you need to stop, but if I’ve filled up and eaten I don’t mind it all. It’s very easy driving, so it makes a nice late night homestretch southbound or early morning warm up northbound. But woe be unto thems that need gasoline after 9pm!!

You forgot that point between Baltimore and DC where I text message you without fail. I also feel like you should mention that awesome shortcut from my house to I-85 that is useful to no one but you and me.
Other than that, this is awesome. I’m so lucky that I found someone who obsesses over maps as much (well, probably more) than I do. Swoon!
